After the heatwave in my last post, we had a stretch of cool, rainy weather that slowed things down a bit. Now we are entering another hot spell and I can already see the garden pushing out new buds. I’m staying on top of watering, and everything is growing vigorously. A lot of the perennials I was worried about have settled in and are looking lively, and some slow-to-start roses are catching up.

Our front garden is really pulling through right now, better than the last heatwave. This is the second year that begonias have soared in the spot around the bird bath, so it may have to become a tradition. Below are just a sample of the plants that are making moves this week, but really nearly everything is showing well. Using the sunflowers to shade some plants has really helped, and my brunnera looks a million times better than it did a few weeks ago. The lovely Nye Bevan rose Andrew bought for me is giving and giving with no signs of slowing down, and the water lily is sending our new lily pads every day. Our hedge is also thriving, a little too much! But it has sent out some flowers of its own so the more the merrier. 🙂

The back garden has been left to its own devices and it’s giving some tropical vibes in all this sun. The mixed herb pot looks just how I wanted it to and is a sensory treat right outside of our patio doors. The petunias I bought at Morrisons are actually so impressive with their watermelon ruffles. The pink geraniums are giving in incredible show right now, and my newest rose addition “Happy Anniversary” has the sweetest scent and is settling nicely in a big pot on the patio. And no, I still have not pressure washed…
