I was worried that I had missed my window for painting our patio fence, but we were blessed with a weekend of warm weather in Glasgow! Of course I had to get out there the minute it was warm enough because rain was sure to follow quickly!!

Our back gardens are fairly big and we have a lot of mismatched fences from different neighbors. I started on the most easily accessible one and the most prominent. I had already given it a good scrub with a brush and vinegar-water mixture. It already looked so much better just from that, but the moss grows quickly here and I really didn’t want to leave it for months, knowing that I would have to scrub it all over again. I watched the weather app religiously, waiting for my chance to get out the brushes.

After a bitter cold spell the weather climbed back up to mid 50’s (or low teens in Celsius) which was all I could ask for. I was able to stain the fence in a few hours with a one coat fence paint. Every once in a while I felt little drops of rain so I painted as fast but as cleanly as I could. I think it looks so good!! Maybe a little streaky in places but the plants can cover that. 😅 It changes the whole look of the border already and our single hellebore plant looks so beautiful against it. I’m really happy we went with this dark reddish shade. But now it has me wanting to scrub the brick wall and finish the other fences as soon as possible. So I’ll be on the lookout for the next warm spell to carry on with our fences glow up. ✨
