Finally happened! It’s been fairly cold the past week while Rachel was visiting and we’ve been plenty busy exploring some new places around Scotland! It was fab and exciting, so I might do a little travel post of that eventually. The weather was warming up quite a bit when we dropped her off at the airport yesterday morning, so as soon as we got back to the house I started to work in the garden!

It’s taken much longer to get these bulbs into the ground than I had hoped, but they all remained in good shape for planting. I had a small order of 10 mixed color double narcissus and 2 peony roots. Since I didn’t get very far along on the other border bed and the front needs more hard landscaping, this would have to be enough for this winter.

Since this is the beginning of my vision for these beds it’s a little hard to place my plants. I didn’t make any kind of outline or drawing for planting, I’d like to simply add plants as I go and let it come to life organically.

I had wanted to plant the hot pink anemoniflora peony along the opposite fence, but that bed needs sooo much more work. So I placed it on the same side as my coral charm peony and if I need to move her someday I always can! It helps knowing that I can always move things around if I change my mind, instead of feeling like it has to be one way forever.

I’m really excited to be at this stage. I really do enjoy clearing out the big weeds and overgrown branches, but I’m doing it all for a reason! And peonies are so special to me, so they had to be one of the first things I plant here. I’m sure this is just the beginning of my collection of them. And I love the ruffles of a double narcissus in spring.

It’s going to be a beautiful weekend so I’m hoping to finally paint this fence! Of course it is right where I just planted all these bulbs, so it might be a bit tricky. But very exciting nonetheless!
